Phil, cheers for info. yes the 1989 version does incorrectly credit harry and wilf as being in it, which is a bit misleading.. the magazine i read belongs to a friend who lives on a narrowboat, it is part of his collection. i havent seen him for sometime as he moves about a lot, he was manchester way the last i heard. i recently requested harrys single `like the big guys do` on an internet radio station and they played it!

Tony, that's a great find, it would look great on this site!

The Torrents of Spring was broadcast live so no original tape exists, however it is believed to still be in existence though all my information is from research, I have no idea if it even exists. On amazon the 1980's remake is available and wrongly lists Harry and Wilfrid in the cast, but this is the 80s version which has nothing to do with them.

Hello Phil, do you know if the version of torrents of spring featuring harry and wilf is available? as it is unlikely to turn up on tv these days. i recently came across an article on the bargee in a 1990s copy of canal magazine Waterways world. it had 8 pages of peoples recollections of filming taking place and b&w images of harry from the time. they mentioned how he was shown how to navigate boat in a traditional way and the man who hid out of sight who actually steered the boats. there was also a review of the video, which had been issued at the time...

James,
Harry and Wilfrid were both rarely off tv. Harry had various other lead sitcom roles in The Best Things In Life (which ran for 2 series), Mr. Aitch (the most watched program of 1967), Potter and Grundy, as well as endless film appearances. Wilfrid did even more, but then he started a good ten years earlier. The IMDB is a good place to get a comprehensive list of their tv / movie appearances. Both actors also did endless stage work, Harry had a one man show he often toured with, as well as directing and starring in theatre productions, while Wilfrid starred in several musicals. :)

They were the best loved and possibly the hardest working actors of their day.

For anyone who hasn't read it yet, Susannah Corbett's book THE FRONT LEGS OF THE COW which is the biography of Harry H. Corbett is now also available in paperback!! A cracking read folks, new intriguing facts on every page!

TONY, yes, they seem to crop up in the most unlikely places. It's a shame that in THE TORRENTS OF SPRING which they are both in that they didn't share a scene together. That would have been so great, a pre-steptoe partnership!
